Welcome to the Omokoroa Lions Club! We’re a vibrant, welcoming group of volunteers caring for the people and environment of the Omokoroa Peninsula and neighbouring communities of Pahoia and Whakamarama.
We are a community-focused organisation that brings people together through regular meetings and events. Members work on projects and raise funds for local causes. We are passionate about our environment and champions of the diverse bird-life along our shoreline.
Some of our activities include:
· Organising BBQ’s as a fund-raiser in support of local events. Our sausages are legendary in Omokoroa and well-loved by kids and adults alike.
· Scholarships for local tertiary students.
· Helping young people secure sponsorship for activities like Spirit of Adventure, Outward Bound, or Sir Edmund Hillary awards.
· Loaning medical equipment and mobility aids to people in need.
· Operating the greenwaste centre on behalf of the Council, thereby raising funds for community projects.
We also collect and repurpose:
· Aluminium cans, coffee pods and wine caps
· Used or unwanted prescription glasses
· Foreign currencies and outdated NZ coins
We meet monthly on the second Wednesday of the month, except in January when we enjoy a casual summer get-together—usually outdoors in a member’s garden.
