Omokoroa Domain

OMOKOROA DOMAIN

The Omokoroa Domain lies behind the main beachfront area near the tip of the peninsula. There are pohutukawas for shade, picnic tables, public toilets, a playground (opened 2022), a free gas barbeque at the northern end and access to the wharf at the southern end. The beach here provides very safe swimming although at lower tides it may be a bit of a walk to water deep enough to swim and when you do get to the channel the bottom drops away very sharply. Out far enough there is nearly always some tidal flow but it is fairly gentle.

Access is from The Esplanade where there is parking or alternatively there is access from Harbour View Road but gates here are closed at sundown.

Walking to the north will take you up the hillside to the Gerald Crapp Reserve and you can extend the walk by continuing around the point and along the walkway on the northern side of the peninsula for as far as you feel able. If you don't want the gentle climb you can start from near the wharf and head west along The Esplanade and back. Reward yourself with a treat from the beach store or a coffee from the restaurant or cafe nearby.
