About the Rotary Club of Omokoroa
The Rotary Club of Omokoroa is a vibrant and growing club based on the beautiful Omokoroa Peninsula. We’re a dedicated group of can-do individuals, united under the worldwide umbrella of Rotary International, an organisation built on the motto “Service Above Self.”
Our mission is to make a positive difference — both in our local community and through international initiatives. One of Rotary International’s proud, long-standing goals is the global eradication of polio, and we’re thrilled to be part of that effort.
At present, we operate as a satellite club under the guidance of Katikati Rotary, though we’re well on our way to becoming an independent club. As we grow, we’re shaping our Rotary Club in a way that reflects our community’s priorities. We welcome people from all walks of life and all ages. As a member, you can get involved at your own pace, contributing in ways that interest and inspire you — because together, we can accomplish so much more.
When We Meet
We gather at 8:00 am on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of every month at the Omokoroa Boat Club (bar side). There’s a brief summer break over Christmas and New Year. Our meetings are informal and relaxed — no set breakfast menu, though we do enjoy a beverage during the meeting. A fun little tradition has even emerged where we quietly race to see who’ll shout the next round of coffees!
Meetings usually run for about an hour to 90 minutes, and often, those who have time stick around afterwards for a casual breakfast and a good chat — about projects or just life in general.
What We Do
Our meetings often feature guest speakers, presentations on Rotary’s work, and updates on local initiatives. Beyond our meetings, we host a variety of social events throughout the year — including BBQs, get-togethers, and holiday season celebrations.
Recent and Ongoing Projects Include:
Annual Midwinter Fundraisers supporting our local First Responders and Fire Brigade
Combined Rotary Golf Tournament raising funds for youth mental health initiatives
Godwit Festival and Beach Clean-Ups
Park Clean-Ups and Native Plantings at local schools and reserves
Refurbishing and redistributing laptops for use both here in New Zealand and overseas
